- Montresor has a wicked plan. He begins to find Fortunato. Once he spots him proceeds to carry out his wicked plan.
- Montresor speaks of the amontilado to lure Fortunato and get his attention. Fortunato falls for this and decides that he should be the one to taste this wine instead of Luchesi.
- However Montresor is cunning and pretends to be worried abot Montresor's health. Fortunato is stubborn and refuses to let poor health stop him.
- Montresor pretends to finally give in to Fortunato reluctantly. They decide too proceed to Montresor's whinery.
- Montresor's plan for the servvant worked so no one was home. This allowed him to continue carrying out his wicked plan.
- Montresor offers him more wine making him more vunerable and drunk. He then continues to lead him further into the vaults to his final destination.
