  • Today we bury Eteocles. May he rest with the Gods.
  • HUBRIS
  • Sister, our uncle is the King. You must do as he says.
  • Ismene, don't you think this is unfair!?
  • PERIPETEIA
  • A plague will fall upon this land, hear this and be forewarned!
  • Antigone believes she knows the will of the gods, and acts in direct contradiction of Creon’s decree. She wants to be a martyr.
  • ANAGNORISIS
  • Antigone is to be set free at once!
  • Antigone sets herself above the laws of her king, unapologetically defying Creon.
  • NEMESIS
  • Tiresias convinces Creon to free Antigone.
  • CATHARSIS
  • The audience knows what Antigone does not: Creon is on his way to pardon her.
  • Antigone hangs herself before Creon can arrive.
  • I am too late.
  • The audience is sad that Antigone, Haemon, & the Queen all died for Antigone's righteous pride. They recognize the same temptations to defy authority in their own lives.
