Chielo: The kid needs to come with me! Okonkwo: Come back tomorrow! Chielo: No I'm taking her now
Ekwefi follows Chielo and Ezinma to a cave. The pursuit of Chielo frightened Ekwefi so she refuses to go into the cave. She decides to wait outside until they return.
Okonkwo eventually arrives at the cave with a machete. Ekwefi now feels more safe for herself and Ezinma. While they wait Ekwefi recalls the day she ran away from her old husband to be with Okonkwo.
