Hi, I am Tessa Wong! I was born and raised in Singapore and currently part of the SUMA graduate program. Somewhere in between, I lived and worked in Cambodia. I started my career in management consulting before pivoting toward social and environmental impact across international development and corporate sustainability.
I made this pivot to focus on issues close to my heart: (just) energy transition, decarbonization and carbon accounting, labour and human rights, and gender equality.I have collaborated with diverse stakeholders including multilateral and bilateral development partners, NGOs, corporations, financial institutions, government agencies, and local communities, which has taught me the real-world complexities and practical constraints inherent in this work.

In Cambodia, I led renewable energy and just energy transition research for development partners including Oxfam, People in Need, USAID, and the World Bank. A particularly meaningful project was developing Oxfam Cambodia's Just Energy Transition Country Strategy, which involved fieldwork and stakeholder interviews with rural community members in Koh Snaeng, one of the last remaining off-grid villages in Cambodia. This experience provided invaluable firsthand insights into energy justice issues, from the challenges of off-grid solar solutions to the negative impacts of large-scale hydropower projects on vulnerable communities. These insights shaped strategic interventions across policy, finance, technology, and community engagement. I've also assessed the environmental and social impacts of solar technologies on agri-fishery enterprises in Cambodia and supported research on solar technologies to advance a Gender-Just Transition in Laos. Community solar technologies are a passion of mine, and I believe that innovative financing and targeted awareness campaigns can help overcome the technical and financial barriers that often prevent their long-term success.

Looking ahead, I hope to work at the intersection of clean energy and financing, where I can prioritize both economic viability and equity in any projects I take on.
