Dertien redenen Waarom eindigt met een suggestie dat Clay zal werken om een einde te maken aan de cyclus van egoïsme en onbegrip die leidde tot Hannah's zelfmoord. Zoals Hannah's tapes onthullen, is dit echter geen eenvoudige taak. Er waren een aantal factoren die in haar beslissing zijn opgenomen. Sommige daarvan waren kleine, relatief ongevaarlijke incidenten, maar anderen waren overtredingen van fatsoen en de wet.
Bespreken wat Clay zou moeten doen nu hij de banden heeft gehoord, is een manier om discussies over zelfmoordpreventie, maatregelen tegen pesten en het melden van misbruik mogelijk te maken.
