- The Americans were not happy with the British troops because the tax laws were unfair and many said that the laws violated their rights.

- The Americans decided to fight back against the British troops to change these new tax laws. This ended badly, as a riot began.
- The British soldiers fired into the ongoing riot, killing 5, and injuring 6 American civilians.
