Long long ago, there was a Queen who resided in Lumbini who had a dream of a holy child... This child would grow up to be Siddharta Gautama, The Buddha
She had dreamed of a white elephant descending from Heaven into her womb, a sign of purity, she had carried him for 10 months and gave birth from her side.
A priest had interpreted the dream and predicted she would birth a holy man.
Siddharta's mother died a week after she was born and as such, he was raised by his Aunt and Father. His Father, fearing the prince would leave the kingdom, ensured that SIddharta had not known of the suffering of the people, and therefore would not leave to live a religious life.
Do NOT look over there! Do as I say NOW!
When Siddharta was 29, he had visited the city and witnessed what is known as the Four Sights. A sick vomiting man, an old man laying on a staff, a praying ascetic Monk, and a corpse.
Distraught by the sights in the city, Siddharta had abandoned his royal life to find a spiritual solution to all problems of human life. Sat under a bohdi tree, Siddharta meditated and saw the 4 Noble Truths, death and rebirth along with how the principle of karma affects rebirth. By seeing this, he removed all craving and ignorance within himself, and achieved Nirvana through enlightenment.
