Storyboard Tekst

  • Beyoncé: I think it's time for us to have a chat about Black women's lemonade!
  • Issa: And about awkward Black girls too. They're so misunderstood.
  • Monáe: Both groups can be included in my Dirty Computer concept. I like where this is going...
  • Issa and Janelle: Agreed!
  • Beyoncé: Lemonade is just turning the sour parts of life into something easier to consume.
  • Black women face this issue often, unfortunately. My awkwardness has definitely made my life sour. I don't think I have room to be Black AND awkward.
  • You both bring up an interesting point that I implicitly mention in my song called "Crazy, Classic, Life."
  • Instead, they have to conform to societal expectations which leaves them ostracized. Dirty computers do not have the privilege to live a crazy nor classic life.
  • Dirty computers are people that do not fit into society's expectations, I think we can agree Black women fit into this category!
  • "Crazy, Classic, Life" is about these dirty computers that cannot enjoy the fun parts of life because society essentially does not allow that.
  • And at the end of the day, lemonade is still bitter. What are Black women to do?
  • Whew Janelle, you better talk!
  • You know, I think awkward Black girls do not have this privilege since there too many archetypes for us (Jezebel, welfare queen, et.) And the awakwardness is not surface level quirkiness, it's an identity.
  • Janelle, that sounds just like us wow. This songs sounds good, I'll have to listen to it later.
  • That's the golden question, Beyoncé! By the way, we should collab on some music one day, we have some pretty good ideas together...
  • And with Lemonade, I can show how a lot of the time in society, it's Black women vs. America and we are made to defend ourselves AND others.
  • This is just the beginning for us!
  • I think that we, as Black women, experience society's shortcomings much more intensely than other social identity groups. We must keep producing art that puts Black women's (and dirty computers alike) experiences in the spotlight!
  • Let's be awkward!
  • Let's be Black women!
  • And unclean!
  • All while drinking a cool glass of lemonade periodddd!
