Act 1 scene 3 The night of the supperSeptember, 1942
(Queitly, to the group.) Its safe now. The last workman has left.
(There is an imediate stir of relief)

Anne!!!
Anne, Peter, Mr Frank and Mrs Van Daan in the main room. Mrs Van Daan is seated with her coat on her lap, that she has been sewing, next to Mr Frank Anne and Peter are seating in the floor close to the centre table. None of them are wearing their shoes. Their eyes are on Mr Frank, waiting for him to give the signal which will release them from their day-long quiet.
I am first for the W.C.
Mr Frank, with his shoes in his hands, stands looking at the window, watching to be sure that all of the workmen have left the building below.
(Innocently.) Your shoes? I dont know what you are talking about.
Have you seen my shoes? You have taken them haven't you?
(Startled, amused)
You are going to be sorry !
Am I!?
She hurries of to the bathroom. Mr Frank walks towards Margots room.
Anne sneaks Peter's shoes from under the table and hides them behing her back.
Peter goes after her. Anne, with his shoes in her hand run from him.
