The news all comes at once as Ellis hears that her parents are taking time apart. Which means she will have to move to Conntictuct with her mom to small town Bramble Falls, which completely ruins her plans for her senior year.

Everything seems to be going wrong as Ellis arrives in Bramble Falls and she feels like everyone hates her (including her childhood crush), they don't have hard enough classes, or enough extracurriculars like she is used to. Shes misreable and homesick. As her whole life feels like its slipping away Ellis starts to emotionally spiral out of control.
“My mom got me registered for school, but they don’t have a large enough student body to offer AP classes here. And they don’t have a school newspaper” (30).
“This is, like, your worst nightmare (30).
After spending quiet a bit of time in Bramble falls, and discovering the real reason her parents split up, Ellis starts to fall in love with the place and her childhood crush and best friend.

And while Fern gets him posed for some photos, I open my eyes to savor the sight of the beautiful boy from Bramble Falls who captured my heart one autumn day at a time (352).
Ellis and her mom end up staying in Bramble Falls permanently, and they are both happier than ever before. Ellis makes all new friends, falls in love, and rediscovers her old passions she had pushed aside.
