In early 1987, Clara, a professional "estate cleaner," is hired to clear out the isolated Victorian manor of a recluse who died of "fright." The house is filled with thousands of antique porcelain dolls, all meticulously arranged to face the center of each room.Clara notices that every time she bags a doll, another one in the house appears to change its expression or head tilt. She finds a diary explaining the "Vessel Theory"—the idea that human shadows can be trapped in porcelain to achieve immortality. That night, her GPS and phone fail, and she realizes the dolls have moved to block every exit, forming a silent, staring perimeter around her bed.
