The people in Flint, Michigan are getting contaminated tap water that is iron and about half of the service lines to homes in Flint are made of led and because the water wasn't properly treated, led began leaching into the water supply, in addition to the iron. Because of the led consumption it can affect the heart , kidneys and nerves. Health affects in children include impaired cognition , behavioral disorders, hearing problems, and delayed puberty.

The crisis began when the city switched its water supply from the Detroit municipal system to the Flint River as a cost-cutting measure. However, the Flint River water was highly corrosive and lacked proper treatment to prevent led from leaching into the water supply. This resulted in thousands of residents, from infants to elders, being exposed to led-contaminated water
