  • International Relationships
  • Rush-Bagot Agreement
  • Spanish Florida and Adams-Onis Treaty
  • After the war of 1812, most disputes were settled and the borders of the U.S. were expanded and secured. However, the U.S. and Britain wanted to keep their navies on the Great Lakes and they both wanted the right to fish there. This led to some conflict.
  • The Rush-Bagot Agreement resolved the issues between the U.S. and Britian. It limited naval power on the Great Lakes and both nations agreed to 1-2 ships on each lake.
  • The U.S. debated its border with Spanish Florida. Seminole Indians in Florida aided American runaways so Americans were constantly entering to get them back. So, the Seminole Indians would raid U.S. settlements. This caused conflict so the Adams-Onis Treaty was created. This treaty settled all border disputes between the U.S. and Spain.
