  • 3) She immediately fell in love with the boy, ran off to gather flowers, and went over to the boy, who asked, "Can I do something for you?" Echo, who did not get a choose, echoed his last words. "For you?" as she handed him the flowers. Narcissus, even though he was used to it, did not enjoy it when girls fell in love with him, so Echo only annoyed him as she followed him around for the rest of the day.

  • 5) Echo ran into the woods, and even though she was unable to say the words in her mind, she wished that Narcissus would one day love the same way that she loved him, and then would hurt the same way that she hurt. She grew thin, and pale, and eventually faded away all together.
  • 6) At the same time, Narcissus was sitting by the water, staring at his own reflection. He couldn't look away. Eventually, he fell in love with the face that he saw in the water. He leaned down to kiss the face and it disappeared into ripples. He reached into the water but it only ruined the reflection entirely. So he sat still, simply staring at the water...forever.
