The burning leg is the unconditioned stimulus and the swollen leg with hives and pain is the unconditioned response.
My leg is burning so bad. I know its going to swell up and get hives on my leg.
The beach is the conditioned stimulus and him being afraid is the conditioned response.
I'm good ever I have been afraid to go to the beach ever since that sting from the jelly fish made me swell up, burn and cause hives on my leg.
Would you like to go to the beach ?
Honestly I don't want to be in any body of water. being in the water bring back terrible memories.
Just the thought of doing swimming has him afraid. Any water related activity is a no no for him.
What if we go down to the lake ?
