I've been dating actor Jesse Plemons since 2016 and we got married in 2022.
We have 2 sons, Ennis (age 6) and James (age 3).
The family currently resides in California.

Kirsten is an advocate for mental health. After opening up about her battle with depression in her 20s, she did seek treatment and is hoping to break the stigma around mental health in Hollywood, encouraging others to seek help. As she once was afraid of the use of medication, she encourages others to speak about their symptoms, including medication that may help them in the long run, as it was for her.

In 2008, Kirsten directed and narrated a documentary titled "Why Tuesday" with the focus in raising awareness to low voter turnout, in attempts to encourage U.S citizens to participate in the election.
In the promotion of her film "Civil War" she had expressed her concerns about gun violence in the U.S. She's done many interviews and advocates through social media, expressing her concern as a mother.
In 2023, she joined Artists4Ceasefire, which called for immediate and permanent ceasefire during the conflicts involving Gaza.
