- When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain?
- All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis!
- Speak, if you can. What kind of creatures are you?
- All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Cawdor!
- All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!
- We can’t go on with this plan. The king has just honored me, and I have earned the good opinion of all sorts of people. I want to enjoy these honors while the feeling is fresh and not throw them away so soon.
- Were you drunk when you seemed so hopeful before? Have you gone to sleep and woken up green and pale in fear of this idea? From now on this is what I’ll think of your love. Are you afraid to act the way you desire? Will you take the crown you want so badly, or will you live as a coward, always saying “I can’t” after you say “I want to”? You’re like the poor cat in the old story.
- The three Witches are chanting and discussing when they shall meet again, one of them says when the battle is lost and won.
- Is this a dagger which I see before me, The handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee.
- A bell rings
- The three witches meet with Macbeth and Banquo, they make three prophecies: Macbeth will become the Thane of Cawdor, Macbeth will become king, and Banquo’s children will be kings.
- I can’t go back. I’m afraid even to think about what I’ve done. I can’t stand to look at it again.
- Coward! Give me the daggers. Dead and sleeping people can’t hurt you any more than pictures can. If Duncan bleeds I’ll paint the servants' faces with his blood. We must make it seem like they’re guilty.
- Why did you carry these daggers out of the room? They have to stay there. Go take them back and smear the sleeping guards with the blood.
- Macbeth having doubts about killing Duncan, and Lady Macbeth is convincing him to fulfill the prophecy.
- What do you have to say? What do I care? If you can nod, then speak too. If the dead are going to return from their graves, then there’s nothing to stop the birds from eating the bodies. So there’s no point in our burying people.
- What, has your foolishness paralyzed you completely?
- Macbeth is hallucinating and is reaching for the bloody dagger as he is on his way to murder Duncan.
- Macbeth was supposed to plant the daggers on the guards so they look guilty, however he was scared of going back, so Lady Macbeth took the daggers from him and went to plant them.
- Macbeth sees Banquo's ghost during the banquet after ordering his death.
