- Douglass goes to his old master for help, but is sent back.

- Hold it together Covey. He is just taking a break. he finished his work. he could kill you if you approach him again.
- Douglass gets a root that is supposed to stop white men from mistreating slaves.
- When Douglass returns, a fight ensues and covey is injured.
- After the fight, Covey is less harsh to Douglass out of fear.
