There were many different Native American tribes. They ruled the land.
In 1492, Columbus discovered the Americas.
Columbus's discovery changed the world. Plants, animals and disease were shipped across the ocean.
Spain sent soldiers to take the land from the Native Americans.
In 1565 Spain created a colony named St. Augustine. It was in what we now call Florida.
