- Originally Old English was a group of several languages, reflecting the varied origins of the Anglosaxons kingdoms of England.
- And the second one was from the Normans, in the 11th century, who spoke Old Norman and developed a variety of English. That conqueer some Scandinavian territories.

- The original Old English language was later influenced by two invasions: the first was by speakers of the Scandinavian branch of the Germanic languages, who conquered and colonized some parts of Britain.
- Some time after the Scandinavian and the normans start to live in peace. These two invasions caused English to mix.

- Since they arrived in the towns there were more people and more protection
- The cohabitation with the Scandinavians derived a significant grammatical simplification and a lexical enrichment.
