Good morning Mr. Adams! The geographic context for the Mayan Civilization was that they were located in the Yucatan Peninsula in south eastern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and Honduras.
Good morning John! What can you tell me about the Mayan Classical Civilization? Don't forget to tell me about the turning point of this civilization.
Geographic features that were in and around the Maya Civilization were Pacific Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico and Tropical Forest.
In order to survive they created aqueducts, dams, channels, bridges, and cisterns. They also created calendar, concept of zero and writing system.
The turning point of Mayan Civilization was that this civilization declined. There were 3 major reasons why they declined: drought, overpopulation and warfare. Most of the lands were drained to make farmland and suffered from lack of nutrients, which meant that there were not enough food to feed the large population. There were also a drought periods when lakes almost had no water. The warfare between Mayan city states for resources increased the death and the destructions of city states. This 3 reasons resulted in fall of Mayan Classical Civilization.
