Zeus decided he wanted a son who could protect both mortals and the Olympian gods.
Zeus thought of every woman who could bear such a child. He finally decided Alcmene would be the perfect woman for the job.
Teeny problem... Alcmene & Amphityron just got married. Knowing she was a virtuous woman, Zeus knew he'd need a good plan.
Immediately after the wedding, Amphityron had to leave to take care of some family business.
Zeus knew this was his chance! He would disguise himself as Amphityron and visit Alcmene while Amphityron was away.
Alcmene welcomed her "husband" home.
