In the year 1237, after wreaking havoc and taking over 2 other empires, The mongols finally made their way to Russia. After years of terror over these other countries they landed in their final destination to do it one more time.
After arriving the mongols began to take over and slaughter the Russians by the thousands and devastated the population.
Although the mongols planned to take over and corrupt Russia, they didn't stay there for long and they never occupied russia. But that doesn't mean they didn't cause destruction. In fact they captured many peasants and made them their slaves.
Now there is one important thing to note of the time of the short lived taking over of russia by the mongols. And that is that in russia there was ,in short, a medieval political federation, called kievan Russia.
Kievan Russia plays an important role in the mongols rampage because it was yet another thing the mongols took over and destroyed. There most important part of this was when they attempted and succeeded in eventually, capturing, sacking, and destroying kiev who was the symbolic center of kievan russia.
Unfortunately for the mongols this was going to be added to the list of unlucky countries that would be stripped of their power by the mongols only for them to take the power back a short time later. Although the mongols stayed there for a short 250 or so years, the Russians were able to quickly gain back the power they had once lost and they bounced back from it quite quickly.
