- Everyone keeps talking about AI... but isn’t it dangerous or out of control?

- Not magic. Just data + algorithms.
- The dictionary definition is: “the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages”.
- But basically, AI stands for Artificial Intelligence. It’s when computers are designed to ‘think’ or learn likehumans. Kind of.

- There are two types: Narrow and General AI.Narrow AI focuses on the mastery of specific tasks, like the intelligent use of language, like Siri or Alexa!General AI is being able to do everything on one machine, like JARVIS from Iron Man. This type of AI has not been achieved yet.

- What is AI really? Let’s break it down.
- There are also different ways of testingthe capabilities of AI. Like the Turing Test. This is to see if an AI can mimic human conversation well enough to fool a human judge.
- Is this a human or a computer?...
- Definitely AI.
- The pass condition is if 50% of the judges can't tell if they're talking to a human or a computer. It is to test its communication skills.

- Another one is called the Coffee Test! It is testing if the AI can enter a typical home, navigating an unknown environment, identifying objects, and following multi-step instructions to make a cup of coffee. It is to test their adaptability!

- AI can also help with everyday stuff! Like unlocking your phone with face ID!

- And even a doctor analyzing a scan!!

- Yeah, but how do we know it’s safe? Can we trust it?

- Great question! What you might be concerned about is the technological singularity, where essentially, AI gets smarter than us. However, there is no evidence of that happening just yet, and, moreover, AI is a tool. It follows what humans tell it. The key is responsible design and rules.

- It’s not planning to take over the world, it doesn’t have feelings or goals!
- However, the potential for harm is still around, despite the positive uses of AI. It will be OUR responsibility to ensure it never reaches that point, and ensure ethical development of this technology.

- The more you understand AI, the less scary it becomes. However, we should all stay well informed and prepared, before we reach the point of no return.
- When used wisely, AI can solve problems and make life easier. Just stay informed and be responsible!
