Nick Carraway moved to New York to sell bonds. He comes from a wealthy family and decides to rents a house in West Egg, next to Gatsby's mansion.
East and West Egg are two different places. West Egg tends to be the place for rich who worked for their money. Whereas East Egg tends to be the place of rich who inherit their fortune.
Nick goes to visit his cousin Daisy Buchanan, as well as her husband, Tom. We meet Jordan who is a golf player. We also learn that Tom is seeing another women, and how Tom abuses Daisy.
Tom takes Nick to the Valley of Ashes, a mining town nearby. We are introduced to Myrtel Wilson, who is also cheating on her husband George who is a mechanic.
Nick, Tom and Myrtel go to a party in New York, Hosted by Myrtels sister Catherine. Tom punches Myrtels nose because she said "Daisy, Daisy"
Nick is invited to a fancy party next door, at his neighbour Jay Gatsbys house. The party is very lavish, with lots of drinking, dancing and music. Here Nick meets Gatsby.
