In 1770 BCE a man named Abraham lived in Ur Mesopotamia. At some point, according to the Torah, the Hebrew Bible, Abraham made a covenant with god. In this agreement, Canaan would go to Abraham 's descendants.

Eventually a great famine swept over Canaan and one of Abraham 's descendants, Jacob, moved to Egypt along with his family. Once they settled down the Pharaoh noticed all of the Israelites moving to Egypt and got worried because they practiced Monotheism and they might overthrow him. So then he put them work building monuments and other things.

I received the Ten Commandments!
Then a man named Moses, an Israelite adopted by the Pharaoh, was told by God to free his people from the harsh and unethical treatment of the Pharaoh. So he went to the Pharaoh and told him to free his people but the Pharaoh did not free them. As a result, the Pharaoh made the Jews work harder and they grew distrustful of Moses.

when the Pharaoh did not let the Jews go, God unleashed several different plagues that killed a lot of the Egyptians but the final disease was the straw that broke the camels back. It was when Moses and all of the other Jews put lambs blood on their doors so the angel of death would not kill their firstborn son. So then he finally released the Jews and Moses from Egypt.
Later on in Moses journey to the promise land, him and his group stopped at Mount Sinai, then Moses went up the Mountain to meet with God. After Moses went up the mountain he received the Torah which was filled with teachings, lessons, and laws. One of these laws was the ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are a set of rules that the people were supposed to live by.
Before entering the promise land, Moses died and his deputy, Joshua, took his place. Then the Jews entered Canaan under Joshua's lead. Eventually, they conquered the city of Jericho and after conquering Jericho the Jews and Joshua later conquered more Kingdoms in Canaan to regain the promise land. And that story was the story of the Exodus
