One day, Mia and her mother were chatting in the living room, when suddenly, Mia asked her mom a question.
How come me and my male friend Jake, look so different from eachother?
Mommy, can I ask you a question?
Yes Mia?
Mia: Why do our physical appearances differ?
Why do I have breasts?
Why are my shoulders rounder?
Why are my hips curvier?
Mia
Jake
Why are his shoulders, broader?
Why does he have more facial hair?
Why does he have strong sides that taper to a small waist?
Is it magic?
Ooh, can you tell me more about it?
*Chuckles* No, my dear. The difference between you and Jake's physical characteristics, is because of your biology, more specifically, with the hormones released by your gonads.
The gonads are the primary reproductive organs in our body. In males like Jake, these are the testes, and in females like you, these are the ovaries.
The testis are responsible for releasing the hormone, androgen. This hormone regulate, promote, increase or maintain sperm production, and also causes the male secondary sexual characteristics, such as masculine features like those you've mentioned. All genders make androgens, but males make more of them compared to us, which is why Jake has those features.
The ovaries on the other hand is responsible for releasing the hormones estrogen, and progestins. The former promotes uterine lining growth, and also causes female secondary sexual characteristics, such as feminine features, like the ones you have.
Oh, so these hormones are responsible for the physical differences between me and Jake?
Yes dear.
I understand it now, thanks mommy!
The End...
No problem Mia!
