  • Circe warns Odysseus about the dangers that lie ahead. She tells them everything they need to do to make it home. Odysseus and his men leave on their frightful journey across the seas that hide Scylla and Charybdis.
  • "Steer wide; keep well to seaward; plug your oarsmen's ears with beeswax kneaded soft; none of the rest should hear that song." (Homer 1230)
  • "Get the oarshafts in your hands, and lay back hard on your benches;...." (Homer 1235)
  • Odysseus decides to listen to Circe. He tells his men to tie him up and put wax in their ears. He and his men survive Scylla and they move on to face Charybdis. He lets Charybdis eats 6 of his men and they continue on the journey home.
  • Odysseus arrives home new and improved. Penelope wanted him to prove to her that he is her husband. Penelope tells him that their bed is outside of the bedchamber. Odysseus built the bed so only he knows that it is carved out of an olive tree. Only now, Penelope knows it is truly Odysseus her husband.
