Reich's Essay allowed me to think of a very common occurrence happening in many high schools and colleges today. The story expressed is based off my cousin Jessica. Reich allowed me realize the lack of support women and men receive in terms of sexual education and birth control methods.

The availability of birth control should be much more attainable for those who cannot afford it. as Reich expressed "sex is primarily non-procreative" (144). Especially regarding students, birth control and sex education needs to be improved in our society.

Matt finally built up the courage to talk to Jessica about his sexual desires. She agreed with him. They wanted to be cautious of unplanned pregnancies so they discussed using condoms or Jessica using the pill.
Jessica and Matt did not have the proper knowledge of how to have safe sex. They attempted to use a condom however it broke because it was not used properly. Due to Jessica not being able to access birth control, it gave her a high probability of becoming pregnant.

As Jessica lived her normal life she constantly felt judged and looked down upon. By her family, friends, and the world as a whole. Seeing her as a knocked-up 17-year-old girl.

Jessica did end up getting an abortion. This sadly stained the way her family and friends now see her

Jessica was judged for being someone who had an abortion at a young age. Reichexpresses how "Culturally, there is an assumption that there are two kinds of women: those who have abortions and those who have babies. In fact, these are the same women, at different points in their lives" (149). I believe that women are commonly being marginalized due to the lack of education and birth control methods taught to students in high schools.
