This happened under the reign of King Louis XVI: who heard about the news through another royal

The governor who was in charge of caring for the bastille, was decapitated and used as a way to intimidate the King and Queen
King Louis and the Queen were so spoiled they never realized how wrong it was to use the civilians money at their own expense.
