Since the mid-eighteenth century , nawabs and rajas had seen their power to erode. They gradually lost their authority and honour. By then the British gained absolute power and authority over India after bring the Mughal dynasty to an end.
The Indian sepoys in the employ of the Company had reasons for discomfort. Due the high taxes, rigid training which were forced onto them and with their low salary the sepoys were unhappy and furious. In the countryside many of their family were facing problems due to the British's rule.
People started believing that they had a common enemy and have to rise up against them at the same time.The sepoys of Meerut rode all night of 10th May to reach Delhi and marched their way into the Red fort to proclaim Bahadur Shah Zafar their leader. The ageing emperor had to accept this demand.

The rebellion spreads... Many leaders took part in this mutiny and outnumbered the British.
The company decided to fight back with all its might and passed on new laws to convict the rebels easily. They recaptured the states and caught all the rebel leaders. They also tried their best to gain back the loyalty of the people.
AFTERMATH- The British had regained the control of the country by the end of 1859,but they could not carry on ruling the land with the same policies, so they passed on new laws to have a more firm administration.
