  • I'm telling you! Tom Robinson raped Mayella! I looked through the window, and saw Tom running away so I ran to to Mayella then I went and found the sheriff!!
  • So from what I understand, You saw Mayella getting raped and saw her in critical condition and didn't call a doctor?
  • In chapter 17, it started off with Heck Tate acting as a witness and sharing what he remembered from the night of November 21st when the rape had supposedly occurred. Heck Tate shares that Bob Ewell had called him over to come to the Ewell house because Mayella had just gotten raped. Heck Tate came right away and examined Mayella and said she was in pretty bad condition. After this Atticus asks if he had gone to get a doctor and he said no. Atticus asked Tate to describe Mayella's injuries to state how severe they were. Eventually Bob Ewell starts testifying and he shares his side of the story. Atticus asks if Heck Tate provided a reasonable description of Mayella's injuries and Bob said yes. Atticus then asks Bob if he got a doctor and if he can read and write then asks him to write his name. Bob writes his name with his left hand and Atticus was trying to prove that Bob may have been the one to hit Mayella because her bruises were on the right side of her face so a left-handed person would have to have punched her.
