Victor led a privileged childhood in a prominent Swiss family in the mountain city of Geneva. Although having a strong family dynamic Victor lost his mother at an early age, impacting him for the rest of his life. This setting serves as the exposition because of of what happens influences the rest of Victor's life and his story.

After a wealthy childhood in Geneva, Victor went to study in Inglostadt Germany to study old chemistry and alchemy. It was here that Victor's previous curiosity turned into obsession and grave robbing at college. Victor's time at college led to him going off the rails essentially and descending into the darkest impulses and ambitions of his mind. This serves as the rising action of the story because it develops many of the themes of the story eventually.

The climax of the story comes as Victor is finally successful in creating life. He is immediately terrified of what he created, abandoning his creature just seconds after gaining life. The climax really focuses on the themes of responsibility to one's creation, and the horror of unchecked science.
