Hernando DeSoto’s journey to the Southeastern region of Georgia

Henry De Soto came to Georgia in 1540 looking for riches (gold)
Spaniards arrived in "La Flordia"
They came in contact with a chiefdom
The Spaniards were attacked, they had weapons, war dogs, war horses, and armored knights. The natives had spears and bow & arrows.
Many natives died and even more did after illnesses like small pox and measles were brought from the Spaniards. This made the Mississippian Indian culture collapse.
The Spaniards lost a lot of supplies and equipment. Henry De Soto never found gold, making his expedition a failure.
