13-year-old actor Ethan Higgins and his friends Steven Chow and Katalina Gru were accepted into a new TV show, The Kindless. Just as the cast finishes their first episode, Steven's mom in the show, Jill Barneby, goes missing.

- Ethan's dark eyes flooded with tears. Jill yelled angrily at him, and Steven smirked. 'GO!' she had said at the top of her lungs. 'NOW!' Ethan obeyed and left the house sadly. Jill's stormy face melted as Bob Johns yelled 'CUT!' Ethan stepped off the set and bowed at his clapping crew and cast. Steven hugged him and Jill smiled. 'Great take, everybody!' Bob Johns said. 'Except you, Ethan.' Ethan's heart choked his throat. He gasped for air. Bob Johns was smiling. 'You did amazing!' But Ethan's autism hadn't cleared yet. The slightest bit of stress made him choke and gasp.
- Katalina noticed first. She grabbed Ethan and helped him to his feet. 'Oh, man. I'm so sorry, kid. I guess I forgot.' Bob Johns looked at Ethan with stress and regret. 'Its-ok-' Ethan struggled to say. Air finally filled his lungs and Katalina helped Ethan into a chair. Tony Higgins, Ethan's father, rushed to help him. Katalina stepped back and stared at Ethan. He mouthed thank you to her, so she went to the snack table with Jill and Steven. 'Is he ok?' Jill asked cluelessly. Steven and Katalina nodded. 'This happens all the time at school during tests' Steven explained. Ethan walked over to them, perfectly fine. 'Guys, we're halfway done with episode 1 already!'
- Bob Johns walked over to Ethan, Katalina, Steven, and Jill at the snack table. He was a small, blonde man who loved directing movies. 'This episode is going to pilot our way to fame!' Bob said happily. 'Um...Bob Johns?' Katalina asked. Bob Johns smiled. 'Just call me Bob. Johns is my last name. You don't me calling Katalina Gru every time I see you.' Katalina nodded uncomfortably. 'Ok, Bob, when will we film the rest of the episode?' Bob shrugged. 'Tomorrow. Take the rest of the day off.'
- Katalina woke up with a headache. She had that feeling again. The feeling she had when Ethan blacked out, the feeling she had when Steven dared her to jump off a cliff in Hawaii, the feeling she had when her parents fought at night. In Hawaii, Katalina broke her ankle in the water and almost dyed. Luckily, Steven saved her. Ethan was in the hospital for a week after he blacked out. Katalina's parents divorced after those fights. Nothing good happened when she had the feeling. Katalina jumped out of bed and ran into Ethan's room. He was putting on his hoodie and stopped when he saw Katalina. ”Kat...” Ethan said, continuing to put on his hoodie. She realized she was shivering with fear. ”WE HAVE TO GO SAVE STEVEN!”
- Ethan followed Katalina. ”Did you have the...feeling?” Katalina nodded and turned a corner. He burst into Steven's room and gasped. Ethan pushed her aside. Steven was being kidnapped by a dark, shadowy figure. ”STOP!” Ethan yelled, ramming his shoulder into the figure. Steven dropped from his arms and the figure jumped out of the window. Ethan and Katalina helped Steven untie himself. ”He’ll be back. For me.”Steven shivered in his blanket. ”Are you ok?” Steven nodded, gripping the blanket. Katalina sighed in releif. Ethan wasn't worried, just confused. ”What just happened?”
- Bob ran into Steven's room after hearing what had happened. Katalina and Ethan looked surprised. ”Bob, what are you doing here?” She asked. ”I heard someone tried to kidnap Steven. Jill told me.” Katalina looked at Ethan. ”Jill wasn't here, but she is next door. She must have heard.” Bob nodded. He looked at Ethan and Katalina questionably. ”What were you guys doing here? Steven isn't here...” Katalina side glanced Ethan. ”Steven's in the bathroom right now.” Bob nodded, not trusting what they were saying. Ethan looked at Katalina, his quick breaths a dead giveaway. They were hiding something,
