The Capitol and each of the Districts in Panem are known for their victors, resources, and their location in what was the United States. Using what they've read and any inferences they can make, students will create travel posters for one of the districts. Students should consider what information the Capitol might include to entice visitors. This activity is a great way to encourage students to read closer and pick up on details they may have glossed over, as they should be able to support their creative choices with evidence from the text.
Students can choose their district or you can assign them a district. To extend the assignment, students can do research into the industry that currently exists in the geographical location of the district in order to add additional depth to the reasons people might want to visit.

Student Instructions
Create a travel poster for a District in Panem using what you've read about it in the text.
Research the modern industry that matches your District’s specialty, such as mining, agriculture, or textiles. This helps students add authentic details to their posters and strengthens connections between fiction and reality.
Select websites or books written for students in grades 2–8. Look for easy-to-understand explanations and pictures that make learning about real industries more engaging.
Use a map to locate where your District would be in the United States. Discuss similarities and differences between Panem’s description and the actual state or region.
Include 2–3 key facts from your research on your poster. For example, add interesting industry facts or famous landmarks that relate to your District’s area.
Present your poster and explain how real-world information made your design more convincing. This encourages students to practice speaking skills and learn from each other’s discoveries.
The Hunger Games District Travel Poster activity asks students to design a creative travel poster for one of Panem's districts, using details from the novel and their own inferences to entice visitors and showcase each district's unique features.
Students select or are assigned a district from Panem, then use scenes, images, characters, and text related to that district to design a poster. They support their choices with evidence from the book and can add real-world industry research for depth.
This activity helps students practice close reading, textual evidence gathering, creativity, and visual communication by connecting details from the novel to their poster designs.
Teachers can extend the lesson by having students research the real-world industry associated with their chosen district's US location, adding more authentic depth and cross-curricular connections to the poster.
