Advertisements, brochures, travel posters, and scrapbook pages are great ways for students to showcase famous sites and features of a city, state, or country. In this activity, students will create one of the above and illustrate at least 2-4 major sites in their assigned location. They should include the name of the place, an illustration or photograph of each famous site, and a description of each. Students may also wish to include images that represent attributes of the location such as its flag, food, animals, people and other relevant features. Teachers can print out the posters, laminate them, and hang them around the classroom or school to have students do a gallery walk and view the many places around the world that students have researched. They could also project the students' posters onto the board and each student could take turns presenting their poster to the class!
Teachers can ask students to create one of the projects, or they can offer all four options and let students select which one they would like to complete. All will contain the same type of information, just presented in a different way! More than one template can be added to the assignment to give students a choice. Be sure to update instructions accordingly.

Student Instructions:
Facilitate peer review by pairing students to give feedback on each other's posters or brochures. This helps students learn from one another and strengthens their communication skills. Guide them to use constructive comments, such as what they liked and one suggestion for improvement.
Showcase a sample travel poster or brochure before students begin. Visual examples clarify your expectations, inspire creativity, and ensure students understand the required elements. Discuss what makes the example effective so students know what to aim for.
Distribute graphic organizers to help students record facts about their location. This keeps their research focused and organized, ensuring they include all necessary details in their projects. Consider providing prompts for categories like major sites, culture, and unique features.
Allow students to create posters or brochures using digital tools such as Google Slides or Canva. Digital design options engage tech-savvy learners and make it easy to incorporate images, graphics, and text. Offer a brief tutorial or template to get them started.
