Activity Overview

Each state in our country has its own unique fun facts that kids will love to discover. For this activity, students will create a 3 cell storyboard that depicts some interesting facts they have learned about Texas. Teachers can encourage students to research their own fun facts, or provide a list of ones for students to look at specifically.

Here are some examples students could choose from:

Texas is the second largest state in area, after Alaska, and the second largest state in population, after California.

Texas was its own country between 1836-1845.

Vietnamese is the 3rd most spoken language in Texas, after English and Spanish.

The catchphrase, “Don’t mess with Texas”, originated as an anti-littering campaign! It is now used to show Texan pride.

High school football is extremely valued in Texas.

Whole Foods grocery store began in Texas in 1980.

Objective: Create a 3 cell storyboard that describes and illustrates 3 interesting facts about Texas.

Student Instructions:

  1. Click “Start Assignment”.
  2. Write a fun fact in each heading.
  3. In the description box, write a short summary of each heading.
  4. Create an illustration that represents each heading using appropriate scenes, characters, and items.
