Begreppet sociala berättelser skapades av Carol Gray 1991 för att användas med barn och vuxna med autism för att bättre hjälpa dem med en mängd olika sociala situationer. Idag har användningen av sociala berättelser utökats till alla typer av elever , inklusive de med betydande kommunikationsbrister.
