Why do students choose who they choose to research? Usually it’s because they admire that person and what they have done or continue to do. Those accomplishments are what makes people well known and important to others. It also shows how much of an impact they've had on a person or society. For this activity, students will create a 3 cell spider map about their chosen person’s accomplishments.

Student Instructions:
As you read, model for students how to find the accomplishments of the subject, whether they relate to jobs, awards, inventions, or other special life moments.
Assist students with writing the main ideas in their own words so they can summarize all of the person's accomplishments.
Choosing the right word for the job can be difficult for students, but writing headlines can help them to be succinct and focused with a given set of information.
Words paint pictures in students' heads, and when they draw they understand information better. Help them to use this tool to their advantage.
When students study the life of a person by reading a biography, they should look at all of the things that person has accomplished. This includes jobs, awards, family relationships, and anything else that sets them apart from others.
Although it is not imperative to admire someone you study, it makes sense that a student would get more out of a biography if they have something in common with the subject or appreciate what they have accomplished.
