Lesson Plan Overview

Learning a new program can be difficult, but this "All About Me" activity is sure to excite students of all ages. Students can browse or search for different artwork and get to know how to manipulate images while teaching others about themselves.

Students will create an "All About Me" spider map. They can include their name, favorite subject in school, favorite hobby, favorite animal, and other favorite things! The provided template includes 5 cells, but teachers may add or take away cells to meet their students’ abilities. The headers have already been filled in, but teachers may choose different headers or leave them blank for students to fill in if they are able. The template is completely customizable to meet all needs!

Here are the five topics that will get students exploring all that the Storyboard Creator has to offer:

  1. Can you find characters that look like you and people in your family?
  2. Can you find a symbol to represent your favorite subject?
  3. Can you find a character, scene, item, or animal that represents your favorite book and/or movie?
  4. Can you find an item or character or scene to represent your favorite after school sport or hobby?
  5. Can you find a patterned background and change it to your favorite color?
  6. Can you find your favorite animal?
  7. Can you find items and a scene that represent your favorite season?

The provided example does not include any text, but teachers may want to have students explore the many different speech bubbles and fun text boxes in the Storyboard Creator. Students may also want to add description boxes using the Cell Layout feature.

How Tos about 3-5: All About Me

1

Incorporate Student Voice with Audio Recordings

Encourage students to record their own voices explaining each part of their spider map. Adding audio helps students personalize their work and practice verbal communication, making the project even more engaging and accessible.

2

Guide students to plan their recordings before starting

Ask students to write a short script or list key points for each spider map section. This planning step builds confidence and ensures clear, thoughtful recordings that connect to each visual element.

3

Show how to use the built-in audio tool

Demonstrate how to find and use the audio recording feature in the Storyboard Creator. Walk through the steps for recording, previewing, and attaching audio clips to specific cells so students feel comfortable with the technology.

4

Model adding one audio clip per spider map cell

Have students record a short explanation for each part of their spider map. Encourage them to share why they chose each image, color, or symbol, helping classmates learn more about them.

5

Facilitate sharing and listening to classmates’ maps

Organize a gallery walk where students listen to each other’s audio explanations. This builds classroom community, celebrates diversity, and encourages active listening among peers.
