Storyboard Text

  • "It is an ancient Mariner, And he stoppeth one of three. "By thy long grey beard and glittering eye, Now wherefore stopp'st thou me?" lines 1- 4
  • The first stanza of the poem there are three men on their way to a wedding but one of them is stopped by a mariner and is curious as to why
  • He holds him with his skinny hand, "There was a ship," quoth he. "Hold off! unhand me, grey-beard loon!" Eftsoons his hand dropt he.( lines 9- 12
  • The guest the Mariner stopped previously explains the wedding is soon begin but the mariner refuses and begins his story. The guest tries again to avoid listening to the story but the Mariner ignores and the man is forced other the tale.
  • "With throats unslaked, with black lis baked we could not laugh nor wail; through utter drought all dumb we stood I bit my arm I sucked the blood and cried A sail A sail" lines 53- 57
  • Something approaching from the west catches the Mariner's eye. It's a ship that appears to be moving without the aid of wind or tide, and it's heading straight for them. "A sail!" he cries out as he bites his own arm and drinks the blood to quench his thirst. With frayed sails and a shattered hull, it's a ghost ship.
  • And now there came both mist and snow, And it grew wondrous cold: And ice, mast-high, came floating by, As green as emerald. lines 51- 54
  • Though the weather started off well at the start of sail, the further south the journey took him the worse the weather came for the Mariner
  • while suffering through the rough conditions, the crew spotted an Albatross. They viewed it as a good luck symbol.
  • At length did cross an Albatross: Thorough the fog it came; As if it had been a Christian soul, We hailed it in God's name. line 63-66
  • "God save thee, ancient Mariner! From the fiends, that plague thee thus!-- Why look'st thou so?"--With my cross-bow I shot the ALBATROSS.line 79-82
  • In this section of the stanza, the Mariner becomes clearly upset and the guest is having curiosity as to why, the mariner then proceeds ti admit he killed th bird they considered to be their good luck symbol
