- During that week, Mary saw Ben Wealtherstaff a lot. They talk about the garden and Mrs Craven.
- Mary saw a boy called Dickon sitting under a tree, playing on a rough wooden pipe. He gave her some seeds for plants.

- Mary told Dickon she had stolen a garden and showed him.
- Mary and Dickon were suprised that some of the plants were alive. Dickon said he would come here every day if Mary wanted.
- Mary followed Mrs Medlock to see Mr Craven. Mary refused Mr Craven to get her a teacher. Mary wanted to play outside.
- Mary ran quickly to the garden to see Dickon. But Dickon was not there.
