Storyboard Text

  • Odysseus Stuck on an Island
  • "Far from his love ones still, he suffers torments off on a wave-washed island rising at the center of the seas" pg.79
  • Suitors In The Palace
  • "First by far to see her was Prince Telemachus, sitting among the suitors, heart obsessed with grief. He could almost see his magnificent father, here... in the mind's eye if only he might drop from the clouds and regain his pride of place and rule his own domains" pg.81
  • Athena Helps Telemachus
  • And now I have come-and why? I heard that he was back...your father, that is. But no, the gods thwart his passage. Yet I tell you great Odysseus is not dead, He is alive" pg.83
  • As a punishment the gods sends Odysseus to be trapped on a island with the nymph to Calypso
  • Calypso Releases Odysseus
  • "Now Zues commands you to send him off with all good speed: it is not his fate to die here, far from his own people. Destiny still ordains that he shall see his loved ones, reach his high-roofed house, his native land at last" pg.156
  • Odysseus' estate is overrun by suitors trying to marry his wife, Penelope, take over his kingdom. Odysseus' son, Telemachus, and has had enough, but feels hopeless because he believes his father is dead.
  • Poseidon attacks Odysseus
  • Athena disguised as one of Odysseus' old friends tells Telemachus to announce the suitors banishment ad then travel to Pylos ad Sparta to ask for news about Odysseus because she "thinks" he may be alive
  • Odysseus on Scheria
  • The gods decide that Odysseus would be allowed off the island and Hermes told the news to Calypso and Odysseus. Calypso is sad but helps Odysseus off the island.
  • While sailing to Scheria Poseidon spots Odysseus and sends a storm to tries ad drown him, luckily he is saved by the gods.
  • "With that he rammed the clouds together-both hands clutching his trident-churned the waves into chaos, whipping all the gales from every quarter, shrouding over I thunderheads the earth and sea at once-and night swept down from the sky-East and South winds clashed and the raging West and north, sprung from the heavens, roiled heaving breakers up-ad Odysseus' knees quaked, his spirit too" pg.161
  • After getting onto Scheria Odysseus ends up with the king and queen and after finding out his identity they agree to help him get back to Ithaca if he tells some stories of his adventures
  • "But come, my friend, tell us your own story now, and tell it truly. Where have your rovings forced you? What lands of men have you seen, what sturdy towns, what men themselves? Who were wild, savage, lawless"pg. 209
