- The first page of the original book immediately talks about Pocahontas being connected to the land/spirits/animals. I will change that by talking about why she feels a connection to the land (talk about her ancestors and tradition). Grandmother Willow will become a living elder that Pocahontas confides in.
- I will keep the encounter between Pocahontas and John Smith. I will be changing the word Indians to Indigenous . I am taking out the word bucksins because this isn't typically what Indigenous people wear and it's not necessary to add in the story. I will change the second encounter of John Smith and Pocahontas because she doesn't know what a compass is and she doesn't know what London is.
- I will take out the last line on page 12, ...and how his people would show her a better way to live. I will take out the scene where John Smith and Pocahontas kiss. I will keep the part where John Smith gets captured and Pocahontas tries to save him, but I'm taking out the part where she says she feels lost without him.
