Storyboard Text

  • Charlemagne, throughout his rule as king of the Franks, would begin making many educational and economic reforms. One of the big things that he did, was focus in an education. Before he was around, the population was uneducated and most adults were even unable to read, and, the economy was broken from the collapse of the Roman Empire. While and after Charlemagne was around, the education would become highly educated and market towns & trade fairs.
  • He conquered his enemies alike the Saxons and the Lombardians in Germania and the Mediterranean with his incredible military strategizing, Charlemagne would do this through his "feudal levies", people who owed the monarchy military service to pay off their debt, and would spread his beliefs of Christianity along the way his enemies.
  • Charlemagne, through conquering his neighbors with his tactics, would slowly unite mainland Western Europe (France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg). This would be known as the kingdom of the Franks, and would bring a new identity to the area, separate from the Romans. This would also be present today, with the French Republic standing proud and strong in the place of the Frankish Empire.

  • Charlemagne's accomplishments, from him boosting the education and economy, to the Saxons and Lombardians he had conquered, would all be from the Carolingian Renaissance. The Carolingian Renaissance would be the first of three medieval renaissances, and while this renaissance was happening, literature, writing, art, architecture, and much more would become much greater and plentiful.
  • Charlemagne would do all of these magnificent accomplishments all from his incredible skills at administrating his empire. Charlemagne, even though he was at Aachen for the majority of the time, would effectively rule over every corner of his empire, this was done by him giving equal representation to all of his regions, and would hold annual assemblies each year in Aachen.
  • Charlemagne's influence would even be felt today, with his legacy impacting modern-day Europe in a humungous way. His religious reforms would spread Christianity to the Germans through military conquests, his reforms in education would lead to a greater educated population, and his effects in the economy would provide stability for a long time.
