  • Have you ever heard of the Califonia gold rush?
  • No, please tell me more.
  • Oh my! I didn't know that, that is crazy.
  • It started in January of 1848, and brought thousands of people.
  • Once everyone found out their was gold they rushed to California. Along the way they set up these boomtowns, which were towns of a few hundred then grew to a couple thousand,
  • Really that is crazy, I have never heard of this before. What else happened?
  • Well a couple hundred people struck it rich, but most were left empty- handed. This was kind of like the Lottery, you are lucky if gold was still their, because most of it was already taken.
  • I have heard something like this I remember people going their but getting nothing in return.
  • Most people just stayed their because of how long and traitorous the journey was to get their, and this led to the west getting populated.
  • Wow, so that is why the west stayed so populated, that is so cool.
  • This movement, the westward expansion, brought hundreds of thousands of people west, in hope of finding gold and a new life.
  • This talk was so interesting, thanks for telling me about the westward expansion.
