- I would like to get an opinion, but I don't want to disturb you. I know another guy...
- Come on. What do you take me for? I am a connoisseur of wine.
- My name is Fortunato. At the time I was in Italy, and I heard tell of a Carnival event. I also heard there would be wine there too, so I had to be there. I also ran into an old friend, Montresor. I wouldn't say a friend, but we would talk occasionally.
- Rising Action w/ Verbal Irony
- Are you okay? We can go up if you want to.
- He told me that he got his hands on The Amontillado. I've been trying to find it for years, and out of all people HE has it. That's when I had the great Idea to take it for my own.
- Rising Action w/ Internal Conflict
- My families motto of arms is "no one attacks me with impunity."
- Hey can I ask you something? What's your families code of arms and motto?
- He asked me to try it out to make sure it was the real thing. I obviously didn't turn down this amazing opportunity. He then took me to where he had the Amontillado.

- Yes I am. Look...
- Hey Montresor, are you a mason?
- As we entered the catacombs I started to get cough because of the dust, or the minerals or whatever it was. Montresor asked if we wanted to go up because of a little cough. I told him I was fine and that we should continue onward.
- Yeah, I DEFINITELY want to go up because of a little cough. I'm fine.
- *Coughing
- During the trip I for some reason reflected on my life. I recently bought part of the downtown area. I bought it so that I can get more money for me and my family. However, I spent most of it on wine. I really need to get this problem under control. I guess since I thought about my family I asked about his. I also noticed that he started to kind of tear up when I did.
- During the trip I also found out that Montresor was a mason. I never knew that about him. I was also very curious why he kept a trowel on him.
