Storyboard Text

  • March 5, 1953Death of Stalin. He was the director of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics from 1929 to 1953. Under Stalin's power the Soviet Union transformed from a peasant society to an industrial and military superpower. He did rule by terror and hundreds of his citizens died under his power. 
  • April 12, 1961Space race. Soviet Yuri  Alekseyevich Gagarin became the first human to be in space. After his success was  announced he became a world wide celebrity.   He orbited the earth. The U.S. Was the first to land a person on the moon. There was many Space races and this was just one of them.
  • August 13, 1961Berlin wall was built. It was a concrete barrier that physically  divided Berlin form Germany. The borders were sealed between West and East Germany. 
  • October 14, 1962Cuban missile crisis. A U.S. spy plane reported the building of a nuclear missile base in Cuba. It was between the United States and the Soviet Union and it was the moment when it came the closest to a nuclear conflict. The crisis was unique featuring calculations and miscalculations and communications and miscommunications. The U.S. promised to not invade Cuba if the soviet union would avoid using missiles. 
  • November 22, 1953JFK Assassination. He was the 35th president of the United States and was assassinated in Texas in an open top convertible. His wife was sitting right next to him while he got assassinated.  
  • July 1965Vietnam war. The United States sent 150,000 troops to Vietnam.
