The sea water provides the stabalization for all marine life and life on earth. A majority of this marine life reside in coral reefs, while some reside on land. They are the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth!
Some Organisms such as those coral over there are actually calcareous algae. Non calcareous algae also resides here but is not composed of calcium carbonate
These coral reef systems are even more biodiverse than rainforests yet occupy less than 1% of the sea floor! They are home to 1/4 of the oceans marine life.
Coral Reefs are home to an abunndance of animals from sponges, oysters, sharks, sea urchins, and many species of fish, my favorite being the mangrove snapper. Many of these marine animals feed off the algae and photosyntheticlife which reside here in the Photic zone or sunlight zone.
Other organisms utilize calcarous shells such as the crustations whcih scamble across the bottoms of these reefs. Shrimps also utilize these shells. However, increased CO2 decreases the amount of carbanic acid required for shell structres ultimately iuuncreasing the pH and acidity of the water.
So, it is up to you, all of you to keep this place alive. Earth, our humanity, and these marine animals require your intervention. We don't have much time, but there is always room for chnage.
Organisms with calcarous shells would therefore have their protection from predators degraded and smaller microbiology would suffer as well from fluxuating acidity.
With increasing acidification, coral reefs have ultimately declines by 14%! from 2008 through 2019. And by 2050, 70-90 % of coral reef ecologies will cease to exists without changes to CO2 emissions and global warming. Without these reefs, marine life would cease to exist and CO2 levels would continue to rise.
